God Never Changes

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” –Hebrews 13:8

Entering high school this year has brought so much change into my life. Going to a new school meant losing a lot of my friends because we didn’t end up all going to the same school this year. There were also many new people that I met and people who were so much older than me. Everything had been altered in my life and there were very few things that were still the same. This verse from Hebrews reminds me that when everything is becoming different, Jesus is there and He is the same. He will always be there for me. No matter what is happening, He is there. The feeling of everything being different is never something that I enjoy. When that happens, I think of this verse and it reminds me to go to Jesus because He will help me through my struggles and anxieties.

My best friend recently told me that she would be moving in a couple of months. What really helped me through this was remembering that Jesus is there for me and He is never going away. When it feels like I have so many insurmountable problems, I know that the One who loves me most will not be gone nor will He ever change. Jesus is like my anchor in a tumultuous storm in the sea, keeping me still and calm. As everything around me changes and is going wrong, Jesus causes my stress to dwindle because I know that He has a plan for me. He isn’t going to let anything bad happen to me for no reason at all.

Hebrews 13:8 also reminds me of how God was with me during the biggest change in my life—my parents’ divorce. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, Jesus was with me, keeping me safe and looking after me during that time. My parents’ divorce was what really made me dislike change and new things in my life. I now know more about what God has done and continues to do for me. This verse is my daily reminder that Jesus will always be my rock and when everything is changing, He is the same person who will comfort me. Jesus Christ will never change and will forever be identical to the same Jesus I have always known.

Dear God, thank You for continuing to keep me safe and always being there for me. I am grateful that You remind me that You will be the same God that You were from before the beginning of time. Please keep reminding me of Your love and that You will never stop loving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
