This is the Day!

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” –Psalm 118:24
I remember looking forward to chapel on Wednesdays when our daughters attended Peñasquitos Christian Preschool. Watching them clap and sing, “This is the Day” brought so much joy to their little hearts, not to mention all those attending weekly chapel. Their faces would just light up with the sweetest smiles as they walked into the sanctuary. They were filled with so much excitement and anticipation of what was to come, whether it was the next song or a Bible lesson to be shared.
Isn’t that a beautiful way to live? With this kind of anticipation of exciting things to come? When I hear or read this verse from Psalm 118: “This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it,” I know that each day is a gift, and I like to think that God gives us each new day to be unwrapped. It is our job to listen to Him and to release our worries or anxieties into His care as we trust in Him.
I know that not all of our days are going to be filled with complete amazingness. We can also have days filled with hurt, sadness, or loneliness. What gives me comfort on those especially hard days is to accept that day as it comes, remembering that God is sovereign over our lives. We can rest assured that He is there right alongside us, through the exciting, and the not-so-exciting times.
Every time I hear Psalm 118:24 it makes me smile because I know that God has the best plans for us and we can trust Him in the process. I also smile thinking of our sweet preschoolers singing and praising His name! Let’s place our complete trust in Him as we go about our every day, and let’s rejoice and be glad in each new day given.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of each day. Thank You for filling our hearts with praise as we accept each day as it comes. Lord, we ask that You place trust in our hearts as we go about each day, knowing that You are sovereign over our lives. We love You, Lord and ask all this in Your name. Amen.
