My Road With Jesus

by Allan Johnson

“I trust in You; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me.” –Psalm 25:2

Sometimes people get driven off the road of their life by the words of another person, whether those words are negative or positive. They tend to let these words get the best of them. I lose sight of God whenever I am driven away by other people’s words. God should always come first before anything else.

My road with Jesus has been amazing throughout my 13 years! When I read this psalm, a bunch of memories flood my thoughts. This verse is especially close to my heart because in it I know that I can remember and relate to these words in any situation. Because Jesus has restored my relationship with God, I can trust God who gives me a sense of comfort. It helps me know I don’t need anybody else’s words to impact me.

I was in a really bad period of my life when I did not care about God, my faith, or much else. I just cared about doing well in sports and hanging out with friends, dressing well, and trying to impress my friends. I made no time to deepen my faith or build a relationship with God. Confirmation lessons showed me that I was getting distracted by the ideas and opinions of others, and I no longer recognized or cared about what was right, what was wrong, what was truth, and what was not. Once I started being more God-fearing, everything got better for me. Although I had let my enemies triumph over me in the rough times, prayers for me and by me were always answered.

God cares for me and He has built a road for me to follow. I never know exactly what is ahead. He may pave a smooth way to new roads and sometimes He will put a roadblock up to keep me safe on others. Yet, He does this so I have an opportunity to be a better person. God is there and always providing me with what I need. It makes me feel happy to know I always have Him to guide me and give me a good map to follow. Even when I am participating in sports, school, or something at home, He is always there for me. He builds me up and gives me strength. God has shown Himself to me by giving me an understanding of what this verse means for me personally. Knowing I can trust in Him has helped me change my life around.

Dear Lord, Thank you for all of the blessings You have bestowed upon me and thank You for Your love. Please guide and assist me in staying on the right road. Please assist me in seeking Your Word rather than listening to the words of others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
