When People Are Sad, Shine Jesus’ Light!
by Lily Tennant
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God.” –John 14:1
Most people go to God when things are hurting or something bad happens in their life. A lot of times we tend to treat God like Santa Claus, asking Him to heal what is wrong in our lives or to help fix things for us. Yes, we should always turn to God when we are sad and need help, but we should also be listening for His direction on a daily basis. God is meant to guide us through our lives, not just solve all of our problems.
There are many things that can cause us to be sad: school, friends, family, internal struggles, and much more. But God knows all that is going on in our lives and tells us that He is always here to support us and lead us in the right direction.
Psalm 34:17-18 says: “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them, He delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Even when we are having a rough day or are sad about something going on in our lives, it is OK. God is with us and ready to help us overcome all of our fears and sadness. God has promised that He will watch over us always and never let us down. He protects us from harm and leads us in the direction we are supposed to go. Even when we are feeling sad, God is there for us and will never forsake us.
Dear God, thank You for watching over all of us every day. Please help us to remember to look to You not only when we are sad or in need, but always so that we can see Your guidance and direction. Please help us to remember that when people are sad, we will shine Your light. Amen.
