Jane’s Blog – The Story, Chapter 25

Seeing the video this week of “Who is Jesus?” reminded me that Jesus himself said, “…open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.” (John 4:35) The faces on the video (and the Holy Spirit) also challenged me: have I stopped looking? Are my eyes shut to people outside my comfort zone? Truthfully, the most effective witness to those outside the faith is usually the one who has just stepped into a new relationship with Jesus.

What causes people to reject Jesus? From the responses of those on the video, a big part of the answer is that they just don’t know who he is! In an age of information overload, how can that be? I mean, think about it! The answer isn’t lack of information about Jesus’ life, ministry, miracles, death, resurrection and the impact of those events on the world, is it? The answer is ‘us.’ We haven’t shared what we know about Jesus. We haven’t lived the gospel – at least not to the fullest. We haven’t wanted the kind of judgment and rejection we know is out there – the snide remarks about our intelligence, the barbs about hypocrisy, and the implication that we’re weak and need a crutch! That stuff is real!

So where does that leave those of us who want to open our eyes to the opportunities to share our faith? When all is said and done, I don’t have the answer!! My guess is there are as many ways as there are people. But I do know this: Fall head over heels in love, and people want to know the details of the relationship. Even if they don’t know the guy – or say they don’t. Even if they say love like that can’t happen to them.

So, who do you say Jesus is?
