Don’t Take a Step Without Him
by Sue Martindale
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.” –Deuteronomy 30:15–16
Take a moment to read all of Deuteronomy 30.
God may have been talking to the Israelites before they entered the Promised Land, but the truth behind His words then still speaks to you and me today.
When your plans work out exactly as hoped, or when life takes a turn you never expected, God is with you in ALL circumstances: the good, the bad, and the ugly, as the old Clint Eastwood movie would suggest.
“[God] redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.” –Galatians 3:14
Through the life, death, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, we too share in the blessing God promised through Abraham.
Remember those times when you were richly blessed? Did you praise God for those blessings? Or did you take credit for them yourself? When you experienced deep loss, did you question God? Or did you continue to praise and thank Him?
“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.” –Hebrews 3:1
We should acknowledge Jesus not only when life is good; but always, praising and thanking God for the mercy He has given us through His Son Jesus Christ, for it is written, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18).
No matter what our present, earthly life brings us, prosperity or barely enough to get by, joy or sorrow, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28). This is not for our glory but for His.
Keep your heart toward the One who gave His life for you. Read His Word daily so He can lead you. Life will bring circumstances we would choose and circumstances we never would. But we can choose Whom we will follow THROUGH it. He is and will be with you every step of your earthly journey. And, when the time comes, will welcome you to your forever home. In the meantime though, don’t take a step without Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, daily my goal is to walk with You, and many days I slip up. Thank You that Your hand is always there to pick me up. I trust You and am so very grateful for Your mercies that are new every morning. I trust and believe that You are with me in all circumstances. May Your name be praised forever and ever. Amen.
