When Fears Overtake Us
by Sue Martindale
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” –1 Peter 5:6-7
Anxiety.
That feeling of doubt.
Fear.
Uncertainty.
Failure.
Cast all your cares on Him.
He who overcame death.
Death on the Cross.
For you!
Why have you forsaken me, Lord?
I lost my job.
My health is not good.
My child died.
Why?
“Cast ALL your anxiety on Him
Because He cares
For YOU!” –1 Peter 5:7
When will the pain,
the heartbreak,
the suffering,
go away?
“Humble yourselves,
under God’s mighty hand,
that He may lift you up
in due time.” –1 Peter 5:6
But it hurts, Lord.
To not be able to support my family.
To suffer this dreadful illness.
To never see my child again.
“Humble yourselves,
under God’s mighty hand,
that He may lift you up
IN DUE TIME.” –1 Peter 5:6
Yes, Lord! It hurts.
But I will trust in You.
You overcame death
for ME!
I will trust IN YOU,
even through THE PAIN.
“Be alert and of sober mind.
Your enemy the devil
prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour.” –1 Peter 5:8
I will not be shaken,
I will cast all my cares
on You, Lord.
For You took my pain
to the cross
and overcame death
FOR ME.
“Resist him, standing firm in the faith,
because you know that the
family of believers throughout the world
is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” –1 Peter 5:9
With Your help, Lord, I will continue
to pray for believers around the world
that their sufferings, and mine,
will be eased because of Your great love
FOR US.
“For I know the plans I have for you,”
declares the Lord,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope
and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11
Lord, I pray for courage and strength to continue to put my trust in You, even when it hurts beyond my ability to bear it. I pray that Your Holy Spirit will daily remind me of Your great love for me and my loved ones. Cast my doubts aside, Lord, and provide opportunities for me to continue to grow in knowledge of Your goodness and faithfulness. It is in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, my Resurrected Savior, that I pray. Amen.
