Carrying the King’s Authority
by Raechel Roman
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” -Matthew 28:18–19
Most of us don't necessarily need to be heroes, great leaders of nations, or people with earthly power. But we know that walking with Jesus means one day He may ask us to surrender to His greatness and do something by faith that we don’t think we can do. The authority Jesus gives us is not about controlling people or situations; it’s about allowing His Kingdom to be established through our lives on earth as it is in Heaven.
Jesus helps us learn to carry His authority to bring peace into environments, justice into conflicts, and to establish a culture of love, patience, excellence, and growth. Great moments sometimes feel like great moments at the time, but oftentimes great moments feel like small trivial moments that you just can’t do on your own.
To practice walking in the King’s authority we surrender to King Jesus' discipleship by spending time with Him in prayer and in the Word to get to know His heart. We also invite Him to have an opinion on how we decide to do the trivial, mundane, and everyday things in life. We choose to live courageously and show love to others with the same sacrificial love God has shown us. I’m so grateful that God preserved the stories of David and Daniel. We need these examples to show us that God prepares us long before significant moments arise. And to help us recognize that it’s often ordinary moments that can bring the very breakthrough you’ve been praying for.
David and Daniel were ordinary boys whom God raised up to do incredible and impossible things in their time. David began as a shepherd boy, learning faithfulness before anyone saw what God was preparing him for. He had to learn how to lead while navigating challenges that came through relationships that were close to him; like his family, mentors, companions, and even people he trusted.
Daniel was a young man when he was taken into exile and placed in a foreign land with different values, systems, and gods. Everything familiar to him was taken away. His dignity, his inheritance, the dreams of the future he once imagined were crushed; never to come to pass the way he thought they would, and yet God positioned him to remain faithful and honor Him in the midst of a culture that did not.
David learned how to honor God while facing conflict from within his inner circle, and Daniel learned how to honor God while standing firm against the external pressures of the people and society he lived in. Now we know, the same God who chose David and Daniel is preparing you too. God has chosen you for His Son, Jesus. He thought of you before the beginning of time, He knit you together in your mother’s womb, and Jesus loves you so much that He gave His life for you.
Like David and Daniel, you have faced challenges that were too big for you. In that, God is teaching you that He is able to do what you cannot do on your own and it’s OK to need help. You are positioned to learn from the best in unique and creative situations. You are being trained to walk in excellence in everything you do. You are learning to walk in the authority of the King by spending time in the presence of the King and following Him each day. He is the Way!
Reflections
Jesus, how do You show me or remind me that I’m chosen?
Jesus, what situation do I need to ask for help with? Who should I ask?
Jesus, what am I learning that’s teaching me to walk in excellence?
Jesus, I just want to sit with You. How are you feeling today?
Prayer
Jesus, You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords, and You have all power and authority. I don’t have the ability to do the good things You have planned for my life on my own. Please give me a vision to be more like You so that I can hold on to restraint and become holy, even as You are holy. Let Your presence be with me in a tangible way so that Your light shines brightly in me. Let Your name be blessed in all the earth. Jesus, we will sing Your praises for eternity as we share the beautiful testimonies of how You set Your people free by the breath of Your mouth and the glory of Your coming. Thank You for Your presence, power, and Your love. I surrender myself to be used by You today to let You show Your sacrificial, steadfast love for someone on Your heart through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
