The Alpha Day Away

What is the Alpha Day Away?

The Alpha Day Away is all about getting away from the busyness of everyday life so you can connect with each other and connect with God. It’s the part of Alpha that many people say had the greatest impact for them. We consistently see hearts more open to Jesus and lives changed at the Alpha Day Away and that is why we do it.

What will I do at the Alpha Day Away?

The Alpha Day Away is held in San Diego County, usually at a location that is different from where you attend Alpha during the week. After all, it’s a Day Away, right? We encourage you to carpool with your small group members. It’s fun and you can process some of what you experienced together on the trip home.

The day begins at 8:30 am with live music and a continental breakfast. The coffee is great, by the way! A steaming cup of Starbucks coffee is waiting for your arrival.

There will be three talks:

  • Who is the Holy Spirit?
  • What Does the Holy Spirit Do?
  • How Can I Be Filled With the Holy Spirit?

The Alpha talks will be given live. You will have small group time and lunch, an opportunity to experience worship, and the opportunity to receive personal prayer. As with everything Alpha, you do not have to participate in anything you do not want to do. Alpha is a safe place for you to explore the Christian faith without pressure or judgment.

Our day typically ends between 3:30 and 4:00 pm. We encourage you to stay the whole day. Some of the moments with the most impact happen at the end!

Why should I go?

  • It helps you get to know your small group members better and form lasting relationships.
  • Three of the teachings are given during the Alpha Day Away.
  • It gives you the time needed and an atmosphere to thoroughly reflect on and process what you are learning.
  • You will have an opportunity to ask for and receive personal prayer.
  • It’s a special time to let God bless and encourage you.

Is there childcare?

Infants are welcome to attend the Alpha Day Away with their mother. We do not have accommodations for children at the Day Away site. It is a long day for them, and so we recommend that you find a babysitter for childcare at your home, have your child spend the day with a friend, or perhaps join with another family attending the Day Away and share a babysitter at one home.

When and where is the next Alpha Day Away?

The next Alpha Day Away is October 24, 2020, supporting spring Alpha Courses starting in early September. The location will be Mount Soledad Presbyterian Church in La Jolla, CA.
