Zondervan’s 2008 NIV Study Bible describes these verses as follows, “Like an anchor holding a ship safely in position, our hope in Christ guarantees our safety… Whereas the ship’s anchor goes down to the ocean bed, the Christian’s anchor goes up into the true, heavenly sanctuary.” Day to day life in this world can be overwhelming much like a ship being bounced around in rough waters. It’s a blessing to know that during times of sickness, relationship trials, or any time of uncertainty that we may face, we are anchored firm and secure to our Savior, Jesus. He is always with us (Isaiah 41:10) and He is our hiding place (Psalm 32:7). That’s a powerful and trustworthy guarantee!
This month as we pray:
- Praise God for the blessing of His presence.
- Pray for all those affected and displaced by Hurricane Harvey. May they find hope and solace in Christ during this time.
- Lift up those in your neighborhood who are currently facing trials or hardship. When we don’t know exactly how to help others, prayer is an excellent place to start.
- Interested in growing deeper in your prayer life? Come explore The Prayer Course (a 6-week course) on Thursdays at 6:30 pm starting Sept 14 or Mondays at 9:30 am starting Sept 11.
