Once again, PLC will award Christ and Character Scholarships in the amount of $1000 each to two incoming freshmen who will be attending a four-year college or university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. A scholarship in the amount of $500 will also be awarded to two college or university sophomores, juniors or seniors who are continuing their education toward a bachelor’s degree. All members and regular attenders of the congregation are invited to apply.
Selection will be made by committee upon review of the student’s application and a 500-words-or-less essay submitted on or before the close of business (5 pm) on Monday, May 22, 2017.
The essay should introduce the student to the committee and communicate not only the student’s aptitude for higher education but their hopes and dreams for the future. Students should highlight God’s activity in their lives, their call to serve Him and the impact they hope to have on their college community. Committee evaluations will be conducted as a blind process; therefore any identifying information should be omitted from the essay (applicant’s name, school preference, etc.).
A cover letter documenting the applicant’s name, contact information (phone and email address), relationship to PLC (member or regular attender), college or university they will be attending, and a brief description of their chosen course of study must accompany the essay.
