“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23.
God’s compassions, His mercy, His grace, are new every morning. January is typically a time for new beginnings as the calendar resets. At the start of each year people often reflect on the events of the closing year and make resolutions for things they would like to change in the new year. As children of God we are promised in this scripture verse from the book of Lamentations that each day is an opportunity to start fresh in the presence and freedom of God’s love and compassion. This month as we pray, let’s spend some time in reflection in the Lord’s presence.
- Make a list of the areas where God has shown His faithfulness to you over the past year. Spend time praying over the list in worship and thanksgiving.
- Think about the circumstances where you are still waiting on God to act. Give these concerns over to God in prayer trusting in hope that God will hear you. (Micah 7:7)
- Pray for God’s presence and guidance to go before us and with us as individuals and as a church into this new year. (Deuteronomy 31:8)
