For the past several years we have collected cans of soup on Super Bowl Sunday, but this year we thought we would collect $$ dollars $$ for Haiti after each service. Just find a volunteer wearing a football shirt after each service to make your donation. Donations will also be accepted through the church and forwarded to Lutheran World Relief just write Haiti in the memo line. Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will add $1 to every $2 donated as long as you are a member. More info is available at www.thrivent.com
Local Faith in Action Opportunity at Local Food Bank
Saturday, February 6th, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
In this uncertain economy food banks are very busy packing up donations to be distributed throughout the county. This is a great family service activity for ages six and up. Students under 16 must have adult supervision. Meet at the Food Bank, 9850 Distribution Ave., San Diego, 92121 by 9:00 a.m. as waivers need to be signed. Please wear closed toed shoes and dress in layers. If you like you can also bring canned or boxed food donations. And lastly, please RSVP to Gail Bigelow at cvcvet@juno.com if you plan on attending.

Attention all Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Ventures and Scouters! 2010 marks the 100th year of scouting in the U.S. Please help recognize Scout Sunday by wearing your uniform (whether currently active in scouting or not) to church services on February 7th. We are also looking for Scouts and adults to assist as greeters, ushers, lectors, communion assistants, and to give the children's sermon for each service. This coffee from Honduras is "trade free" and comes ground or whole bean in a decorated bag for $11.00. The proceeds support hospitalized children in Pedro San Sula and they make great birthday, anniversary or hostess gifts.
An Evening of Prayer

During our time together, we will worship with music, give our thanks for His blessings, and pray to understand God's will for ourselves and our families, our community, and PLC. There will be corporate prayer for the PLC Missions & Willow Grove. Also, you will have an opportunity to present your prayer requests in a group setting or in a one to one private setting with a member of PLC's Prayer Ministry. The season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 17. Lent is the season of preparation leading up to Easter, a time during which we prepare our hearts to celebrate with joy the resurrection of Jesus.
Most people have heard of the concept of giving something up for Lent. In Romans 12 the apostle Paul urges us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice acceptable to God. Our entire life is to be a sacrifice. We all make sacrifices, but what type of sacrifice is acceptable to God? During the season of Lent we will take an in depth look at the 12th chapter of Romans, working through it in a verse by verse manner. You are invited to come and discover what God has for you during this Lenten season.

ALPHA IS COMING AGAIN
March 7th - May 23rd, 2010
Block out your Sunday evenings beginning March 7th for the Alpha Course. Alpha is a free and fun way to get connected to God and others through a series of talks and small group conversations. There's also a great dinner to kick off each evening. Dinner is served at 5:00 p.m. and the evening concludes by 7:30 p.m. Childcare is available upon request.
What is Alpha?
Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in an informal, fun and friendly environment. The Alpha course runs ten weeks and consists of a series of talks, looking at topics including 'Who is Jesus?' and 'Why and how do I pray?' We meet for dinner and each talk is followed by discussion in small groups.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone - believers who are looking for discussions on the basics; seekers who want to know more about Christianity; anyone desiring to connect to other people and to God. No Question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.

New This Session! Alpha-Kidz
Who is Alpha-Kidz for?
Alpha-Kidz is a VBS style program for kids in grades 1 through 6 that runs while Mom and Dad are at the Alpha Course. Designed around the themes of the weekly topics for the adults, Alpha-Kidz will have times of learning, craft, play, and free-time. They're going to live it! You may register them at the same time you register for the Alpha Course. Childcare is available for children younger than 1st grade.
