“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.” -Romans 13:8
In this chapter from the book of Romans, Paul is writing to the church of Rome with urgency encouraging them to “wake up from their slumber” (v. 11) and love their fellowman because salvation is near. His use of the word “fellowman” demonstrates that as believers, it is our responsibility to love all people, Christian and non-Christian alike continuously like a debt that is never paid off. Relationships are very important, both our individual relationship with Jesus and the relationships that we have with each other. God has placed us in community with each other. It is a great blessing from Him to be able to share our lives, both the good parts and the challenging parts with each other. This month as we continue to learn more about Life on Mission within our church, let’s pray for God-ordained opportunities to love others.
- Praise God for the people in your life… your family, your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, etc.
- Ask God to identify an opportunity this month for you and your family to love someone by meeting a need in your community whether it be making and delivering a meal for a family, visiting a neighbor who doesn’t get out much, raking the leaves in someone else’s yard, writing a thank you note to someone who has touched your life recently, etc.
- Take 5 minutes each day this month and intentionally pray for someone you know who is currently hurting or struggling. Pray for God’s grace, love, mercy, and freedom to wash over them.
