“You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others. Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” -2 Timothy 2:1-3
Each season of life holds many blessings and many challenges. We know in our hearts as children of God that the Lord is always with us, He is mighty to save, and He can speak peace into all of our situations out of His great love for us (Zephaniah 3:17). Sometimes though, we also need people beside us reminding us, encouraging us, and speaking godly wisdom into our daily struggles. In this passage from 2 Timothy we see a glimpse of Timothy’s special relationship with his mentor, Paul. Paul was a “spiritual father” to Timothy teaching him from his own experiences, guiding him through trials, and praying for him as they worked together to spread the Gospel. Timothy and Paul were both blessed by their relationship. Today as we seek to grow and defend the church in a harsh world shaped by increasingly impersonal relationships are we missing out on the blessing that can come from truly investing in each other’s lives?
This month as we pray:
- Praise God for the people He has placed in your life.
- Ask God to identify people in your circles of influence who could use your personal gift of encouragement.
- Pray for those in our church who are working to shape the next generation of Christian leaders.
- Interested in being a spiritual mentor to a new believer? Contact the church office.
